I'M THE ARTIST BEHIND BLACKBIRD & SAGE

It all began as a woman, a road, a sense of adventure, and a yearning for discovery.  

Moving to the United States from the North West of England at the age of 25 with nothing more than 2 suitcases, a backpack & a long held dream of experiencing expansive landscapes, towering mountains, deep canyons, mesas, oceans, deserts, & rivers...it was a vastness & beauty I had only dreamed about.

It's been well over 20 years since that fateful decision, & I have fallen in love with it all....& more, but when it comes to the wild rugged desert landscape & wide open skies of the Southwest, I am insatiable.

I moved to Santa Fe, NM in 2017 & I now have zero desire to move anywhere else. After years of searching, I can finally say I'm home.

These 20 plus years of exploration has been for me, a search for knowledge, experience & authenticity. 

Although I now live life creatively, I did not settle down to explore creating art until my early forties, when I picked up some metal, leather and crystals & fell deeply in love with the creation of jewelry that had a story, meaning & energy. 

Later I picked up a torch, melted the heck out of some copper, bronze and brass, played with bits of silver, & a new expression of myself was discovered.

My work as a Jewelry Artist does not imply expansion. My work is expansion.

I see it is as physically & spiritually pushing limits, peeking around the next bend, peering towards the horizon, delving deep, & exploring dark shadowy crevices long forgotten.

I see it as grit & dirt & rust & edginess & messy hair & fully embracing the art of imperfection. It's about the open road & the adventures we have & the love that deepens, the grace we develop & the growth we undergo as we walk the path. It is about being just a little afraid of the darkness, but knowing the moon will always be there to light the way. It is about not only discovering yourself, but becoming yourself.
